Eurowings Steps Up Its ‘Sneaker Flydays’ Following Successful Pilot Phase

In an innovative move to unite business and casual lifestyle, German airline Eurowings is stepping up its popular initiative dubbed “Sneaker Flydays.”

The Lufthansa Group member announced that flight attendants and pilots could now wear white Puma sneakers emblazoned with the Eurowings logo every Friday throughout the summer season.

This decision comes after a successful test phase which not only added a fashionable touch to the uniforms on board and on the ground but also met the staff’s desire for a sportier footwear option.

In an internal survey conducted among more than 3,000 crew members, a significant majority favored the idea of wearing sports shoes more frequently during their duty hours. With over 700 comments analyzed, the Puma sneakers were lauded for their comfort and innovative design. The initiative also received considerable positive feedback from passengers and on various social media platforms, further validating the decision.

Taking cues from the “Casual Friday” concept prevalent in many workplaces, Eurowings decided to make every Friday a “Sneaker Flyday” from now on, significantly increasing its frequency from a monthly basis.

Eurowings CEO, Jens Bischof, commented on the decision, “Whether on a business trip or on vacation, no shoes unite business and casual lifestyle like sneakers do.” He added that the sporty attire “highlights our identity as ‘Europe’s Value Airline’, with which we want to increasingly stand out from the competition of low-cost airlines.”

The “Sneaker Flydays” initiative underscores Eurowings’ commitment to providing a comfortable work environment for its staff while differentiating its brand in the highly competitive low-cost airline market. It’s a clear example of how the airline is not only listening to its employees’ needs but also responding positively to consumer feedback.
