Hainan Airlines at Vienna Airport VIE

From Vienna to the Panda Capital: A New Adventure Awaits

A new journey awaits from Vienna, but where does it lead?

Starting December 2024, Hainan Airlines will connect the Austrian capital to Chengdu, China’s enchanting Panda Capital, for the first time.

Travelers will be able to fly directly from Vienna to Chengdu, a city famous for its rich cultural history, stunning cuisine, and as the home of the giant pandas.

This new direct flight strengthens Vienna’s role as a hub for flights between Europe and Asia while enhancing connectivity with one of China’s most dynamic regions.

Hainan Airlines will operate three weekly flights from Vienna to Chengdu on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Departing from Chengdu at 2:45 a.m., the flights will arrive in Vienna at 6:05 a.m., and return flights will depart Vienna at 12:30 p.m., arriving in Chengdu the next day at 5:10 a.m. The year-round service opens a unique gateway for tourism and business opportunities between the two cities.

Chengdu, often referred to as the “Panda Capital,” is home to the renowned Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.

With approximately 20 million residents, the city is also a key technological and economic hub in Western China, particularly in the fields of electronics, IT, and biotechnology.

As a gateway to the Tibetan Highlands and nearby attractions like the Leshan Giant Buddha, Chengdu promises an exciting blend of adventure, culture, and history.

Hainan Airlines, China’s largest privately owned airline, has been awarded the prestigious 5-Star Airline Rating for thirteen consecutive years. With this new route, it expands its already extensive network, which includes over 1,700 routes to more than 200 cities worldwide, connecting Europe, Asia, North America, and beyond. This new service complements Hainan Airlines’ existing route from Vienna to Shenzhen, further solidifying its presence in the Austrian capital.

For travelers, this new connection offers a chance to explore Chengdu’s vibrant culinary scene, which is world-famous for its bold and spicy Sichuan cuisine. Whether for business, leisure, or adventure, this direct flight opens new doors for Viennese travelers looking to experience the allure of China’s cultural heartland.
