Frontier Adds New Nonstop Flights From San Diego

Frontier adds new nonstop flights from San Diego to three major U.S. cities starting this June, expanding its footprint in Southern California just in time for summer travel.

The ultra-low fare carrier announced new daily service from San Diego International Airport (SAN) to Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Salt Lake City (SLC), and Austin-Bergstrom (AUS), bringing the total number of nonstop destinations served by Frontier from SAN to eight.

The new routes are scheduled to launch over two days. On June 12, flights to Chicago O’Hare will begin, followed by Austin and Salt Lake City on June 13. With introductory fares starting as low as $39, Frontier continues to position itself as a budget-friendly option for both leisure and business travelers.

Josh Flyr, vice president of network and operations design at Frontier Airlines, emphasized the airline’s ongoing commitment to the region, noting the expansion is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Frontier’s presence in San Diego and offer more low-cost travel options to and from Southern California.

These new additions are part of a bigger shift Frontier is calling “The New Frontier,” a comprehensive update to the airline’s customer experience, frequent flyer program, and onboard offerings. Among the new features is the introduction of UpFront Plus seating. This upgraded section includes window or aisle seats in the first two rows of the plane, extra legroom, and a guaranteed empty middle seat—designed for those who want more comfort without breaking the bank.

But the upgrades don’t stop there. Frontier plans to roll out free, unlimited companion travel for its most loyal customers in the coming months. And by late 2025, the airline will begin offering First Class seating on every flight, aiming to combine traditional premium perks with Frontier’s signature affordable pricing.

For frequent flyers, the revamped FRONTIER Miles loyalty program stands out in the crowded travel rewards space. Members earn 10 miles for every dollar spent, with multipliers increasing at elite status levels—up to 20X for top-tier members. Elite status is accessible at just 10,000 miles, and rewards include priority boarding, seat selection, and complimentary bags depending on the level achieved.

Families, in particular, may find added value in Frontier’s program, thanks to its simple family pooling feature. This allows members of the same household to combine miles, making it easier to unlock rewards and travel benefits together. And with no cost to join, it’s a compelling option for budget-conscious travelers looking to maximize their savings.

Frontier’s expansion and service enhancements arrive during a time of growing demand for domestic air travel. San Diego International Airport has seen a steady rise in passenger traffic, and the addition of daily nonstop flights to major business and leisure hubs such as Chicago, Austin, and Salt Lake City is expected to further boost connectivity and convenience for travelers in the region.

With its combination of low fares, upgraded seating, and customer-friendly perks, Frontier is clearly making a bid to redefine what ultra-low-cost air travel can look like. Whether you’re planning a summer getaway or simply looking for more affordable ways to visit friends and family, Frontier’s expanded route map and enhanced in-flight experience may offer just the right balance of value and comfort.

Travelers can now book flights on these new routes via Frontier’s website, with fares starting from $39. As always, these deals are limited and subject to availability, so early booking is recommended.

Tickets must be purchased by 11:59 pm Eastern time on Mar. 31, 2025. Sale fares are valid for non-stop travel on select days of week, Jun. 12, 2025, through Aug. 18, 2025. The following travel blackout dates apply: Jul. 3, 5-6, 2025. Not all markets are available for all dates of travel. Round trip purchase is not required. All travel rules will apply.
