Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has suspended its fuel supply to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) due to unpaid dues, leading to significant operational disruptions.
Since October 14th, PIA has had to cancel a total of 322 flights, including 134 international flights, due to the unavailability of fuel and ongoing financial troubles. Thousands of passengers have been left stranded and inconvenienced, with PIA unable to provide definite departure dates for rescheduled flights.
In light of these developments, the interim Prime Minister, Anvarul Hak Kakar, has called for an acceleration in the privatization process of PIA. The government believes that privatizing the airline could be a viable solution to its recurring financial issues and operational inefficiencies. This move is seen as a critical step towards ensuring the sustainability and competitiveness of Pakistan’s aviation sector. (AA)
