Lufthansa Group Dominates Berlin Airport with 30% of All Flights

The Lufthansa Group closed 2024 as the undisputed market leader at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), operating 30% of all flights to and from the capital.

This achievement places the group well ahead of its competitors, with the second-largest airline provider at BER accounting for only 17% of connections. The six airlines under the Lufthansa Group umbrella—Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, and SunExpress—collectively carried 6.4 million passengers last year.

In total, the Lufthansa Group airlines carried 6.4 million passengers last year. On average, one of the Group’s aircraft took off from BER every 15 minutes.

The Group’s six airlines present at BER offered up to 500 direct flights per week to almost 60 destinations.

Eurowings alone connects BER with around 45 destinations across Europe, North Africa and the Gulf region. Travelers can reach more than 290 destinations worldwide from Berlin via the five Lufthansa Group hubs.

While other airlines have announced plans to reduce their services at BER in 2025, the Lufthansa Group continues to grow at the airport.

The Group subsidiary SWISS has been operating daily non-stop flights to Geneva and back since October.

Eurowings will increase its seat capacity by 12 percent: with new destinations such as Bilbao, Corfu, Faro and Newcastle, Germany’s largest leisure airline is offering Berlin further attractive holiday destinations in the summer.

Lufthansa and the German capital share a long history. The airline was founded in Berlin in 1926. Today, Lufthansa flies not only to and from Berlin. The Group is represented here – as it is otherwise only in Frankfurt – with all important business segments. Around 2000 Lufthansa Group employees live and work in Berlin.
