More than 300,000 passengers will travel through SFO for the Labor Day weekend, marking one of the biggest weekends of air travel for the year. The expected passenger counts for Saturday, Sunday and Monday travel are expected to near 187,223, a slight increase over last year’s numbers. With record-breaking growth year after year since 2012, and with 2015 on track to be the airport’s busiest ever, SFO is one of the nation’s fastest growing airports.
“We appreciate that record numbers of passengers are choosing SFO as their gateway to Northern California,” said Airport Director John L. Martin. “We provide hundreds of connections to destinations all over the world, an exceptional airport experience, and easy access to and from San Francisco and the rest of the Bay Area.”
This Labor Day weekend, between Friday, September 4 and Tuesday, September 8; 304,430 passengers are projected to travel through SFO. The busiest day will be Sunday, September 6 when more than 67,000 passengers will be coming and going through the airport, an increase of 7.9 percent over Labor Day Sunday in 2014 with nearly 53,000 passengers.
SFO is experiencing solid growth for the past several years. In 2014, 47.2 million passengers traveled through SFO, a 4.5 percent increase over record-breaking numbers in 2013. A host of new international flights and carriers along with larger planes, like the A380, helped push the numbers higher. In the summer months, airlines add routes and larger planes to accommodate more travelers.
