New Routes Boost Iberia Group to Record Growth in 2024

The Iberia Group, which includes Iberia, Iberia Express, and Iberia Regional Air Nostrum, achieved a historic milestone in 2024 by transporting 30,732,745 passengers.

This record-breaking figure reflects a strong rebound in both business and leisure travel demand, as well as the success of newly introduced routes and expanded operations in key markets.

The flagship carrier, Iberia, carried 18,677,812 passengers, followed by Iberia Express with 7,687,718 passengers and Air Nostrum with 4,367,215 passengers. Together, the three airlines showcased the group’s ability to meet growing demand across diverse markets.

A significant factor in this growth was Iberia’s strong focus on Latin America. In 2024, the airline increased its capacity to the region by 16%, offering 5.3 million seats across 18 destinations with 320 flights weekly. This expansion played a pivotal role in boosting passenger numbers, further solidifying Iberia’s leadership in connecting Europe and Latin America.

The introduction of new routes also contributed to Iberia Group’s success. Notable additions included Japan, which launched in October, alongside Tirana, Ljubljana, Salzburg, Innsbruck, and Tromso. These destinations expanded Iberia’s global reach and attracted new customers seeking connections to both emerging and established destinations.

Domestically, Iberia Express strengthened its position by offering popular routes to the Canary and Balearic Islands, while Iberia Regional Air Nostrum enhanced connectivity within Spain and across Europe. These regional efforts complemented the group’s international expansion, ensuring that travelers had seamless options for both short-haul and long-haul journeys.

According to Beatriz Guillén, Iberia’s Global Sales Director, the record passenger numbers reflect the airline’s commitment to providing exceptional service and meeting customer needs. “The success of our routes to Latin America, North America, Europe, and our new route to Japan has been instrumental in reaching this milestone,” she noted. Guillén also acknowledged the dedication of Iberia’s employees, whose efforts made these achievements possible.

Iberia Group’s ability to adapt to evolving market demands while maintaining a focus on customer satisfaction has positioned it as a leader in the aviation industry. By expanding its network and increasing capacity, the group continues to meet the growing needs of modern travelers, offering both reliability and innovation in air travel.

As the group looks ahead, its focus on operational excellence and strategic growth suggests even greater milestones may be on the horizon. Whether flying to vibrant Latin American cities, exploring Europe’s cultural hubs, or venturing to new destinations like Japan, Iberia is poised to continue soaring to new heights.
