Oman’s SalamAir Expands Fleet with 10 New Airbus A320s

SalamAir is set to grow its fleet significantly over the next three years, adding 10 new Airbus A320 aircraft to meet increasing passenger demand.

The airline, known for its low-fare model, has placed a formal request with multiple aircraft leasing companies to secure these planes, aiming to enhance both domestic and regional connectivity.

With the additional aircraft, SalamAir’s total fleet is expected to reach 25 Airbus A320s by 2028, up from its current 15, including two new A321s arriving in 2025. This move comes as part of the airline’s strategic expansion to stimulate tourism in Oman and introduce new, underserved destinations to its growing network.

“Our return to our Low-Fare approach has been highly successful, with full aircraft and more demand than we can meet,” said Adrian Hamilton-Manns, SalamAir’s Chief Executive Officer.

“Our expansion over the next 5-years requires more aircraft to enable us to develop more domestic and regional flights, and to introduce destinations that are currently unserved by airlines. These steps will stimulate tourism to Oman and ensure faster growth in the sector. Our low-fare model is highly popular and our plans to add 10 additional aircraft over the coming 3 years is a response to the demand that we see for budget travel. We see other airlines attempting to move to this market due to the obvious demand that exists; this is positive as competition will reduce fares and benefit the consumer.”

In 2024 the airline carried over 3.2 million passengers, representing a 20% increase on 2023 passenger volume. 2024 also marked the airline`s refocus on low-fares, including its year-round starting fares of 9.99 OMR to domestic destinations. These steps created a surge in travel, and SalamAir is seeking to add more aircraft to cater to this increased demand. SalamAir will receive two new A321 aircraft in 2025 to take the fleet size to 15. The 10 additional aircraft will see the airline grow to 25 A320s by 2028.

SalamAir operates a fleet of 13 Airbus A320/321 aircraft with over 80 daily flights. SalamAir’s 14th & 15th aircrafts, both A321neo, will be delivered to the airline in early 2025.
