Plus Ultra enters Argentina with 2 weekly Buenos Aires flights

Plus Ultra has started flying to Argentina, becoming the third Spanish airline to link Spain and Buenos Aires. The carrier launched the route with 2 weekly frequencies and plans to increase that to 4 in July.

An Airbus A330 operated the first service from Madrid’s Barajas airport to Ezeiza on Saturday 23 May, landing early on Sunday after more than 11 hours in the air. The move adds fresh competition on a route that is already seeing strong growth in capacity this year.

Iberia is set to reach a record 23 weekly frequencies in June, July and August, while Air Europa continues to operate a daily service. Aerolines Argentinas also flies up to 13 times a week, and World2Fly is due to join the market in October.

Plus Ultra’s arrival marks another step in the expansion of long-haul links between Spain and Argentina, a market that has become increasingly crowded. The airline’s entry also strengthens Buenos Aires as one of the main South American destinations for Spanish carriers.

The route is initially being operated with 2 weekly flights, but Plus Ultra has said it will double the schedule next month before increasing again to 5 flights every 7 days later on. That would place it among a growing group of airlines competing for passengers between Madrid and the Argentine capital.

Iberia is responding with a bigger operation of its own. The airline plans to fly entirely with its A350 fleet on the route during the summer, using its largest aircraft as demand rises.

Air Europa remains another major player on the corridor. It operates a regular daily service between Madrid and Argentina, maintaining a steady presence alongside Iberia and Aerolines Argentinas.

The market will become even more competitive in October, when World2Fly is scheduled to begin flying between Madrid and Rosario. The airline, owned by Iberostar, plans 2 weekly services with Airbus A350 aircraft.

Plus Ultra’s expansion reflects the wider rebound in long-haul travel between Spain and Latin America. It also highlights how airlines are using Argentina to add capacity, boost frequency and compete for premium and leisure demand on one of the region’s most important routes.
