Saudia has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321XLR, becoming the first airline in the Middle East and Africa to operate the aircraft. The Saudi national carrier received the jet in Toulouse on 25 May 2026, the first of 15 A321XLRs on order.
The delivery marks a major step in Saudia’s fleet modernisation programme and supports the Kingdom’s ambition under Saudi Vision 2030 to attract more than 150 million visitors annually by the end of the decade.
Extra Range, Single-Aisle Efficiency
The A321XLR is powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines and offers a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles. That reach allows Saudia to open new international routes that would previously have required larger, less fuel-efficient widebody aircraft.
The aircraft delivers a 30% reduction in fuel burn per seat compared to previous-generation jets, cutting both CO2 emissions and noise. All Airbus aircraft can currently operate on up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with a target of full SAF compatibility by 2030.
Premium Configuration on a Narrow-Body
Saudia has configured the aircraft in a low-density layout with 144 seats across two cabins. The Business Class cabin offers 24 full flat seats with direct aisle access, while Economy Class provides 120 seats.
The aircraft features the Airbus Airspace Cabin, which brings widebody-style comfort to a single-aisle jet. Passengers benefit from extra-large overhead bins, advanced lighting systems and one of the quietest cabins in its class.
A Partnership Spanning Four Decades
The delivery reinforces a relationship between Airbus and Saudia stretching back more than 40 years. Saudia received its first Airbus aircraft, an A300, in 1984. Airbus jets remain central to the carrier’s operations today as it pursues fleet expansion and network growth.
Saudia currently serves more than 100 destinations across four continents. The airline expects the A321XLR to accelerate expansion into new international markets, increasing both connectivity and capacity in line with its broader strategic goals.
Milestone for the A320 Family
The A321XLR is the latest variant of the A320neo Family, the world’s best-selling commercial aircraft programme. The family has secured more than 19,900 orders from over 300 customers worldwide.
“This delivery is a proud milestone for Saudia and a testament to our ambition to lead aviation in the region,” the airline said in a statement marking the occasion. The carrier positioned the A321XLR as a cornerstone of its long-term international growth strategy.
