TSA PreCheck® Hits 20 Million Members, Streamlining Airport Security

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently announced a significant milestone for its TSA PreCheck® Trusted Traveler program, which now boasts over 20 million active members.

This achievement marks a new record for the program since its inception in December 2013. The program’s rapid growth reflects a broader trend of travelers seeking more efficient and stress-free airport experiences.

Why More Travelers are Opting for TSA PreCheck®

TSA PreCheck® has become synonymous with convenience and efficiency in air travel. The program allows low-risk travelers to expedite the screening process at more than 200 airports across the United States. With TSA PreCheck®, passengers can bypass long security lines, keeping their shoes, belts, and light jackets on, while leaving laptops and compliant liquids in their carry-ons.

According to TSA Administrator David Pekoske, “More travelers than ever are using TSA PreCheck because of its value, ease and efficiency. TSA PreCheck continues to be one of our most innovative risk-based security solutions, providing the benefit of shorter wait times of under 10 minutes, greater checkpoint efficiency and improved security.”

A Growing Trend in Travel Efficiency

TSA PreCheck® is part of a broader suite of Trusted Traveler programs, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Global Entry, which together have now vetted over 40 million airline passengers. As the demand for these expedited services continues to rise, the TSA has made enrollment and renewal more accessible and affordable. The cost for a five-year membership has decreased, starting at $77.95 for new enrollees and $68.95 for renewals.

Busan Green and Growing

Enrollment in TSA PreCheck® is a straightforward process. Prospective members can start the process online, choosing from authorized enrollment providers like CLEAR, IDEMIA, or Telos. After submitting the online application, new members complete their enrollment in person at a TSA enrollment center, which includes fingerprinting and document verification. Most applicants receive their Known Traveler Number (KTN) within three to five days, enabling them to use TSA PreCheck® lanes on their next trip.

Benefits for Families and Frequent Travelers

TSA PreCheck® isn’t just for solo travelers; families can benefit too. Children under 12 can accompany their enrolled parent or guardian through TSA PreCheck® lanes without restriction, while teens aged 13 to 17 can do the same when traveling on the same reservation, provided their boarding pass includes the TSA PreCheck® indicator.

For frequent travelers, TSA PreCheck® has become an invaluable tool, saving time and reducing the stress associated with airport security. As travel rebounds, the program’s popularity is expected to continue growing, offering even more passengers a faster, more streamlined airport experience.

As TSA PreCheck® surpasses the 20 million member mark, its success highlights a broader trend towards the adoption of technology and risk-based security measures in travel. With more travelers recognizing the benefits of these programs, the future of air travel looks increasingly efficient and user-friendly.

Whether you’re a frequent flyer or an occasional traveler, TSA PreCheck® offers a valuable way to streamline your journey, allowing you to spend less time in security lines and more time enjoying your trip.
