Flughafen Wien AG has reached a significant milestone, surpassing €1 billion in revenue for the first time in its history.
The airport operator reported an impressive €1.05 billion in revenue for 2024, marking a 13% increase from the previous year. With a record net profit of €239.5 million, Vienna Airport is now gearing up for a massive €300 million investment drive aimed at expanding its infrastructure and enhancing the passenger experience.
The surge in revenue is largely attributed to a strong passenger rebound, with 31.72 million travelers passing through Vienna Airport in 2024. Anticipating further growth, Flughafen Wien expects to handle around 32 million passengers in 2025 while the entire Flughafen Wien Group—including Malta and Kosice airports—is projected to serve 42 million travelers.
Terminal 3 Expansion to Enhance Passenger Comfort
A key focus of the airport’s investment plan is the Terminal 3 Southern Expansion, a 70,000 m² addition set to open in 2027. The project aims to significantly improve passenger flow, comfort, and services by introducing:
- State-of-the-art security checkpoints for faster processing
- New premium lounges to elevate the travel experience
- Expanded shopping and dining options featuring global and local brands
- More comfortable waiting areas and entertainment zones
With tenant acquisition already underway, Vienna Airport is preparing to transform Terminal 3 into a modern hub designed to meet increasing passenger demand.
A Strong Summer Travel Season Ahead
Flughafen Wien is also bolstering operations ahead of what is expected to be a record-breaking summer travel season. The airport is hiring 300 additional staff across security, ground handling, and customer service to ensure seamless operations.
“The booking situation for summer is strong, and we anticipate peak travel demand,” said Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Flughafen Wien AG. “We are already implementing modernization measures across terminals to enhance passenger experience.”
Investing in the Future
Vienna Airport’s €300 million capital expenditure for 2025 will not only go toward terminal expansion but also fund several key projects:
- Renovation of Terminal 1A to improve facilities
- Expansion of Office Park 4 to attract new businesses
- Enhanced logistics facilities, including Helios’ new 80,000 m² logistics park
- Vienna House Easy hotel opening in late 2025, set to become Austria’s fourth-largest hotel with 510 rooms
With over 23,000 employees working across 250 companies, Vienna Airport remains one of Austria’s largest employers and a critical economic hub for the region.
Aviation Growth vs. EU Regulations
While Vienna Airport’s financial outlook remains positive, Flughafen Wien AG is closely monitoring regulatory challenges. The company has expressed concerns over EU overregulation, warning that increased bureaucracy could hinder aviation growth and drive up costs.
Despite economic uncertainties, the airport’s 2025 financial guidance remains strong, with projected revenue of €1.08 billion and a net profit expectation of €230 million.
With continued investments in infrastructure and passenger experience, Vienna Airport is poised for further success, solidifying its role as a leading European travel hub.
