Vueling to Launch Barcelona-Istanbul Flights with Expanded Service in 2025

Vueling is set to begin operating three weekly direct flights from Barcelona to Istanbul Airport starting on 29 October 2024.

This new route marks Vueling as the only Spanish airline currently offering a direct connection between Barcelona and the Turkish city.

Initially, flights will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. However, from 30 March 2025, the frequency will increase to seven weekly flights, providing daily service to Istanbul.

Vueling, part of the IAG group, is one of the leading low-cost carriers in Europe and plays a key role in Spain’s connectivity. The airline is a dominant presence at its primary base, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, and maintains a strong foothold in other markets, including Bilbao and connections between mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands, and the Canary Islands.

In the first half of 2024, Vueling took delivery of five Airbus A320ceo aircraft and plans to receive 20 more aircraft by the end of the year. Deliveries include the anticipated A321 XLR, which will be crucial for supporting additional frequencies and new routes to secondary cities. The airline expects to expand its fleet further in 2025, with plans for 27 more aircraft, including one Boeing 787.

As Vueling carried nearly 18 million passengers in the first half of 2024, this expansion reflects the airline’s continued growth in the European low-cost market and its commitment to improving connectivity between key destinations like Barcelona and Istanbul.
