What’s Changing for ITA Airways Travelers in Summer 2025?

What’s changing for ITA Airways travelers in summer 2025 might just transform how passengers experience European air travel.

Starting March 30, ITA Airways has officially moved its ground and flight operations to Terminal 1 in Frankfurt and Terminal 2 in Munich. These main terminals, also used by Lufthansa Group airlines, now serve as the new home for ITA Airways flights, making airport navigation and connections far more efficient. The shift is a major step forward in the airline’s partnership with the Lufthansa Group and is designed to streamline the travel experience from check-in to boarding.

For passengers, this means shorter transfer times, faster access to security checkpoints, and improved connections with Lufthansa Group carriers. Whether you’re flying for business or leisure, this new setup will simplify connecting flights and make it easier to catch codeshare services within the group’s expanding network.

To mark the occasion, two ITA Airways Airbus A320neo aircraft made inaugural flights from Rome Fiumicino to Frankfurt and Munich. Both jets featured a fresh detail—new ‘Member of Lufthansa Group’ stickers on their fuselage, signaling the deepening alliance between the Italian and German carriers.

One of the biggest perks now available to travelers is access to over 130 lounges around the world. Thanks to the collaboration, ITA Airways passengers can now use Lufthansa Group lounges based on eligibility rules, while Lufthansa Group customers can also enjoy access to ITA lounges. For frequent flyers and premium-class passengers, this upgrade enhances comfort both before and after flights.

According to Joerg Eberhart, CEO and General Manager of ITA Airways, the move signifies a key milestone in the airline’s journey. He described it as part of a broader plan to elevate service standards and customer satisfaction, with a special focus on connectivity, comfort, and convenience. The goal is to create a travel experience infused with “Made in Italy” excellence, starting at the terminal and extending onboard with signature Italian hospitality and design.

In another highlight for summer 2025, ITA Airways has launched a brand-new route between Milan Linate and Munich. The flight operates twice daily from Monday to Friday, perfect for same-day round trips, and once daily on Saturdays and Sundays. This new service strengthens links between Italy and Germany and offers more flexibility for both business travelers and weekend visitors.

Across the full summer schedule, ITA Airways will serve 59 destinations. These include 16 intercontinental routes, 27 international connections, and 16 domestic flights within Italy. On top of that, the airline is introducing 12 seasonal summer destinations, focusing on popular Mediterranean hotspots such as Greece, Spain, and the Italian islands—ideal for vacationers looking to explore sun-drenched coastlines and cultural gems.

The operational updates also point toward ITA Airways’ growing role in the Lufthansa network and European aviation overall. By embedding itself within the German carrier’s ecosystem, ITA aims to offer passengers a more integrated, comfortable, and consistent flying experience—without losing its distinct Italian touch.

With enhanced lounge access, smoother airport transitions, new flight routes, and stylish aircraft updates, summer 2025 is shaping up to be a promising season for ITA Airways travelers. Whether flying across Europe or preparing for a long-haul adventure, passengers can now look forward to a more connected and curated journey that blends Italian elegance with German efficiency.
