Starting April 15, 2024, Heathrow Airport will celebrate its annual Whisky Festival. This month-long event, in partnership with World Duty Free, promises exciting activities from April 15 to May 14.
Heathrow invites whisky enthusiasts and newcomers alike to explore a vast array of whiskies. The 2024 festival will feature global product launches and engaging in-store events, highlighting everything from vintage collections to modern blends.
In 2023, whisky sales dominated at Heathrow, making up 70% of all spirits transactions. On average, passengers purchased three bottles of whisky per minute. With more than 97 top whisky brands, Heathrow offers one of the UK’s premier whisky selections.
During the festival, Whisky Ambassadors will guide passengers in each terminal, helping them choose the ideal whisky. Experts from Pernod Ricard will also host free masterclasses at Terminal 5, offering tips on whisky tasting and serving.
This year’s highlights include exclusive launches by brands like FABLE, Wildmoor, and Bushmills. The Dalmore will also introduce its Luminary No 2 2024 Edition during the festival.
Heathrow’s dining spots will feature special whisky-infused dishes. Foodies can also take part in the festival this year, by sampling new whisky-infused menu items crafted for the event by chefs from a range of Heathrow’s bars and restaurants.
Among the meals available exclusively during the festival are Big Smoke Taphouse & Kitchen’s pulled pork burger with Monkey Shoulder glaze, Caviar House & Prunier’s smoked salmon with Woodford Reserve and The Commission by D&M’s sirloin steak with ginger whisky cocktail.
Heathrow Rewards members can win exciting prizes during the festival, including bottles of featured whiskies or a complete FABLE collection with limited-edition labels. These bottles are adorned with artwork inspired by Scottish myths, adding a unique touch to the collection.
Top Tips for Selecting the Perfect Whisky Gift
1. Consider the recipient’s taste preferences
Does the recipient have a preference for a particular brand, distillery or type of whisky? Fans of traditional flavours may prefer a classic Scotch whisky, American whiskey drinkers may enjoy a rich and robust high-quality bourbon and those who enjoy smoky flavours might appreciate a peated whisky.
2. Think about the occasion
For a milestone birthday, anniversary or special occasion, consider a higher-end bottle such as a single barrel or limited edition whisky.
3. Is the gift a travel souvenir?
If the whisky is being gifted as a travel souvenir, look for special releases unique to your location. A Heathrow exclusive or locally made whisky can make for a unique and memorable gift.
To ensure everyone reaches their destination safely, Heathrow reminds passengers to always drink responsibly when travelling. Liquor purchased in World Duty Free stores should not be consumed in the airport.
