Costa Maya Cruise Port Travel Guide: Everything You Need to Know Before Going to Costa Maya

Are you traveling to Latin America? Costa Maya is one of the best tourist spots you can visit on your trip.

Costa Maya doesn’t only offer you to know all the history of Costa Maya Ruins but also gives you access to beautiful-looking beaches that have the Caribbean appeal you can find in Mexico beaches.

If you are going to Costa Maya on a cruise, you will get to Costa Maya cruise terminal, and although many people take this port for granted and start doing other things right away, you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to explore this port and see everything its Malecon has to offer you and its views.

However, it’s difficult to know what a place has to offer you if you’ve never been to that place, so we are here to give you a hand before your trip. Read this page to learn everything you need to know before going to the cruise terminal!

What Is Costa Maya Cruise Port?

As its name suggests, Costa Maya Cruise Port is where cruises go from when sailing out of Costa Maya or where they get when they visit it. This port can manage three cruises at the same time, so you don’t have to wait any time for ships to move when going there.

Costa Maya Cruise Port is just a few hours from Cancun, Mexico, and it’s one of the most modern ports in the country. You can find several things to do in this port before going to your final destination, so we recommend you take some time to do some of the activities the port has to offer.

The reason this port includes many activities for tourists is the density of the population that visit it each year. Therefore, they had to make the cruise terminal more useful and enjoyable for the ones visiting it.

How to Get to Costa Maya Cruise Port

People going to Costa Maya mostly do it through a cruise, and we recommend you do so since it’s the most comfortable way to do it. Apart from that, it makes your overall experience better and more luxurious. Many people visit Costa Maya to see the Mayan Ruins, so we recommend you book a day pass for all attractions some time before going there.

Regardless of that, cruises are not the only way you have to get to Costa Maya or Costa Maya Cruise Port, and you can go for other options if they fit your budget better or if you don’t feel comfortable on cruises.

It’s not that difficult to get to Costa Maya by road, but you would take more time than the one you would take when sailing. Tourists in Costa Maya can go to Costa Maya Cruise Port by taking a taxi, golf car, or even a shuttle bus.

You may think it’s odd to go to Costa Maya Cruise Port if you didn’t go to Costa Maya by cruise, but it’s more common than many would guess. The cruise terminal also includes a Malecon -which is the name they use for their walkway- so you can walk through it to get to other areas in the port.

What to Do in the Costa Maya Cruise Port

As we mentioned before, Costa Maya Cruise Port represents an attraction by itself due to all the things you can do there. But if you are interested in something more than just seeing the port, there’s plenty of Costa Maya excursions available in the area. Do you want to go there and try it out yourself? Here is a brief of some of the attractions it has:

Services

While these are not attractions by themselves, it’s always good to know all the services you have available as a tourist when going there, and they are the main services all tourists should have access to when traveling. Firstly, you have several ATMs available for you there, but most of them only accept US dollars.

There are many bathrooms spread across the cruise terminal, so don’t worry about walking a long distance just to go to the bathroom. You can also find first aid services and a pharmacy in case you are not feeling that good or think a pill could help you feel better.

Pharmacies in Costa Maya Cruise Port have almost everything one would need while traveling and have a decent stock of medicines, so feel free to ask for specific pills to see if they have them. You also have some information kiosks in the port if you ever get lost or have any questions about where you should get next.

Aside from that, you can access this port’s taxis and golf cars if you don’t feel like walking and prefer getting to your next destination faster. Nonetheless, they have a cost, so you should have some cash available for that.

Shopping

Regardless of where you go, shopping is one of the best parts of traveling, and Costa Maya Cruise Port has a wide variety of craft markets and duty-free stores there for you to get some souvenirs from your trip. Cigars and tequila are particularly popular in this place.

Pool Attractions

Do you feel like swimming as soon as you get to Costa Maya? You can do it at the cruise terminal! However, you can do more than swimming in the terminal’s beautiful swimming pools and beaches since you can also get into the Dolphin Discovery attraction to see the dolphins and even swim with them.

Some of the beaches and swimming pools in this port have free access, but you have to pay a fee if you want to have a table for yourself.

Restaurants

You can’t leave Costa Maya, or Mexico, in general, without trying everything that Mexican cuisine has to offer you. You can find excellent restaurants in the cruise terminal, such as Kakaw (chocolate tasting), La Consentida (tequila tasting), El Faro (grilled food), and Cantina Latina (Mexican cuisine).

Final Thoughts

As you could see, Costa Maya Cruise Port is part of all the things you can do here, so it’s a must-go on your bucket list when going to Mexico.

Remember you should always learn a bit more about the place you are traveling to before going there. Schedule your trip to have enough time for all activities there!
