We can all feel a little down sometimes but when you really feel low it can impact more than your mood.
Everything in your life can feel out of control, and even too much to handle, so it is really important to do anything you can to focus on you, raise your self-esteem and put yourself back in charge of your own life. Here are a few tips to help you feel good about yourself and hopefully everything else as well.
Think and speak positively
Wherever possible, always use positive language in reference to yourself both out loud and in your head. Instead of saying what you don’t like, change it around and say what you do. Rephrase the things that you get yourself down about. You are not fat, you have generous curves, not skinny but slender. The language we use can play a big part in how we think and feel, and if you say something enough you can start to believe it, so try to believe the good things not the bad.
Learn to accept compliments
It can be difficult to let people compliment you without feeling embarrassed or even thinking of yourself as unworthy or that they are being kind or lying. This is simply not true. Learn to take a compliment, really listen to what the other person is saying and try to take it on board. You do not need other people to give you a self-esteem boost but don’t ignore it when it is offered.
Do things you like and that make you feel good
It sounds pretty obvious but doing things that make you feel good can make you feel better. Whether it is a long luxurious soak in the tub, a trip to the spa or some quality time with something purchased in an online adult shop, making your mind and body feel good can make you feel happier and raise your self-esteem. Have a good think about what you like to do and treat yourself, you deserve it.
Work on your overall health
There are clear links between self-esteem levels and how healthy you are in general. You don’t have to exercise 24/7 or lose loads of weight to feel better, but exercise does release endorphins and chemicals that make you feel happy which in turn can make you think more positively about yourself. Similarly, you don’t have to go on a crazy diet or anything like that to feel better, but too much sugar and fat can really leave your body feeling sluggish and down which does no favours for your self-esteem. A balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit and veg will leave you feeling more balanced in general.
Do one thing at a time
If you are feeling a little overwhelmed it can further make you feel bad about yourself. Try setting yourself achievable goals, writing them down and ticking them off one at a time. Give yourself one thing to do a day and when you have done it you will find yourself feeling better and more in control.
There are many things you can do to boost your self-esteem so give it a try and take back control today.
