Madrid has successfully concluded the 2023 edition of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress, a leading international event for the medical oncology sector.
The congress gathered over 33,000 delegates, generating a direct economic impact of more than 60 million euros for the city.
The Area Delegada de Turismo, through the Madrid Convention Bureau (MCB), supported this significant professional event by launching a welcoming campaign for all attendees. Special greetings included videos at the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, banners in the IFEMA area, and congress-themed signage at two metro stations (Nuevos Ministerios and Feria de Madrid).
This year’s ESMO Congress marks the third time Madrid has hosted this prestigious event, with previous editions in 2014 and 2017, both yielding excellent results. The city was also chosen as the venue for the 2020 edition, which had to be postponed due to pandemic-related restrictions. The organizers reaffirmed their commitment and trust in the capital, deciding to return and celebrate the forum between October 20 and 24, bringing together physicians, researchers, and other professionals in the field of medical oncology. This event stands out as the most significant and largest congress hosted by the capital this year.
ESMO utilized eight of the ten main pavilions at IFEMA MADRID, in addition to the north and south convention centers and some rooms at the Palacio Municipal, where various program meetings took place. The organization also maintained a virtual format for the congress, chosen by 10% of the participants.
European Rotors 2023: Another Major Event on the Horizon
Next month, Madrid is set to host another significant congress, European Rotors 2023. This event is the largest commercial congress for vertical aviation in Europe and the second-largest in the world. For the first time, it will leave its original location in Germany to be held in Madrid from November 27 to 30, expecting around 3,000 delegates. This event will also take place at IFEMA MADRID.
