Ryanair ramp agent caught using cannabis at Palma Airport has been dismissed without compensation, following a positive drug test conducted by the Civil Guard.
The employee responsible for guiding planes in security zones at Son Sant Joan Airport violated both Ryanair’s strict internal policies and Aena’s safety regulations.
The random drug test, part of routine controls at the airport, revealed cannabis use despite the worker showing no external signs of intoxication.
Once the positive result was confirmed, the Civil Guard informed Ryanair and Aena, leading to the immediate withdrawal of the employee’s security clearances. The airline reassigned the worker to another role while processing the disciplinary action.
Aena’s regulations strictly prohibit working in secure airport areas under the influence of drugs or alcohol, regardless of visible symptoms.
Ryanair also enforces a zero-tolerance policy on substance use to maintain a safe environment.
The High Court of the Balearic Islands upheld the dismissal, stating the employee was aware of these policies and, therefore, not entitled to compensation.
