Spanish Coastal Rentals Almost Fully Booked for August

Looking for a beachside holiday home in Spain this August? You might need to act fast!

According to Idealista, a leading property portal, a whopping 84.9% of holiday homes within 15 kilometers of a beach are already booked for the month of August. This marks a slight increase from last year’s 84.3% at the same time.

Mallorca is leading the charge with an astonishing 99.7% of its coastal holiday homes already reserved. Following closely is Menorca with a 93.2% occupancy rate, while Asturias boasts a robust 90.8%. Other popular destinations include Malaga (89.2%) and Lanzarote (88.8%).

Almudena Ucha, the director of Rentalia at Idealista, commented on the trend: “The slight increase in the occupancy rate shows the stability of the sector, despite the movements against it, and shows that tourist housing is one of the preferred accommodation alternatives for tourists visiting our coast.”

Even with these high booking rates, there are still a few spots with more availability. For instance, Huelva, Tenerife, and Valencia have lower occupancy levels, at 60.7%, 69%, and 75.3%, respectively. So, if you haven’t booked your summer getaway yet, these destinations might be your best bet.

Interestingly, some regions have seen a significant rise in occupancy rates compared to last year. The Huelva coast, for example, jumped from 44.6% in August 2023 to 60.7% this year. Similarly, the Cadiz coast increased from 83.5% to 88.3%, and La Coruña saw a rise from 80.3% to 84.1%.

However, not all areas experienced growth. Menorca’s coast saw a drop from 97.3% to 93.2%, and Tenerife’s occupancy rate fell from 72.8% to 69%. Tarragona also saw a decrease from 85% to 81.4%.

Almudena Ucha highlighted the popularity of northern Spain: “The data highlights the north of Spain, where several coasts show higher levels of bookings than last year. Travellers who choose these coasts are looking for a climatic refuge to escape the heat waves and overcrowding typical of other destinations.”

With the majority of beachside homes already booked, it’s clear that Spain’s coastal areas remain a top choice for summer vacations.

Whether you’re seeking the sunny shores of Mallorca or the cooler climes of northern Spain, planning ahead is essential to secure your spot in these coveted holiday destinations.
