Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) announced that the airport temporarily suspends its services due to COVID-19.
The airport’s announcement says, “In line with the measures taken in our country in order to reduce the effects of Corona virus and prevent its spread, international flights have been completely stopped as of March 27, 2020. In line with the same measures, the principles of intercity travel have also been rearranged and accordingly, only Turkish Airlines has been authorized for a limited number of domestic flights.
In accordance with all these decisions as all domestic and international flights will not take place from our terminal for a while, you can learn the status and details of your previously planned flights by contacting the relevant airlines.
Our biggest wish is; Our country and our nation, together with the world, get rid of this troubled situation as soon as possible.
On this occasion, we once again present our gratitude to the devoted employees of the health sector, and wish to have a healthy and peaceful day as soon as we will welcome you at our airport again.”
Turkish Airlines CEO Bilal Eksi tweeted, “”Domestic flights from Istanbul [Airport] and Ankara [Esenboga Airport] have been limited to some metropolitan cities as of Saturday 11.59 p.m. [2059GMT],”.
On Friday, Turkey suspended all international flights as part of its measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
