Turkish business travelers attending trade fairs in Germany will now find it easier to obtain a Schengen visa, thanks to a policy change that eliminates the need for advance visa appointments.
This adjustment aims to ease travel restrictions for exhibitors and professionals who frequently visit Germany for business purposes.
No Appointment Needed for Trade Fair Participants
Under the new rule, Turkish exhibitors showcasing their products at fairs in Germany can now apply for a Schengen visa without a prior appointment. Instead, they can visit an authorized visa acceptance center, such as iDATA, during normal working hours to submit their applications.
This relaxation applies only to exhibitors with valid participation ID cards, ensuring that businesses can seamlessly enter Germany for industry events without long waiting times for visa appointments.
More Flexibility for Essential Travel
The German government has also introduced similar flexibility for other urgent travel situations. Those needing medical treatment in Germany, individuals traveling for the funeral of a first or second-degree relative, and passengers applying for an airport transit visa can also apply without prior appointment. However, travelers in these categories must provide relevant documentation, such as medical reports or death certificates.
A Positive Change Amid Visa Challenges
For months, Turkish travelers have faced significant hurdles in obtaining Schengen visas, with long wait times and appointment shortages disrupting business and tourism. The updated policy, particularly benefiting Turkish truck drivers and fair participants, is expected to improve travel efficiency and strengthen business ties between Turkey and Germany.
While this adjustment does not remove all visa requirements, it represents a step toward smoother business travel between the two nations. For Turkish professionals planning to attend trade fairs in Germany, this new rule offers a much-needed fast-track option to enter one of Europe’s biggest business hubs.
Meanwhile, as a significant policy shift, the United Kingdom will soon require Turkish diplomatic passport holders to obtain a visa before traveling. The new rule, set to take effect on March 11, will impact ministers, members of parliament, ambassadors, and even the Turkish president. Previously, Turkish officials with diplomatic passports could visit the UK visa-free for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. This change marks a major adjustment in UK-Turkey travel relations, adding an extra layer of bureaucracy for official visits.
