Turkish Airlines closed 2024 with an impressive milestone, carrying 85.2 million passengers across its network.
This represents a 2.1% increase compared to the 83.4 million passengers recorded in 2023. Despite slight challenges, the airline continued to demonstrate strong performance in both passenger traffic and cargo operations throughout the year.
Passenger load factor for the year stood at 82.2%, with domestic flights achieving a higher occupancy rate of 85.8% compared to 81.8% on international routes. In December 2024 alone, the airline transported 6.4 million passengers, a 5.3% increase from the same month in 2023, with an overall load factor of 80.7%.
Cargo operations also contributed significantly to the airline’s growth. Turkish Airlines carried a record 2 million tons of cargo and mail in 2024, a remarkable 20.6% increase from the 1.7 million tons transported in 2023. December 2024 accounted for 165,900 tons of cargo, up 3.7% year-over-year.
The airline’s fleet saw notable expansion, growing to 492 aircraft by the end of 2024. This fleet supported the airline’s extensive operations, with total available seat kilometers (ASK) increasing by 8.2% year-over-year to reach 254.1 billion for 2024.
International transfer passengers played a significant role in Turkish Airlines’ success, with 31.7 million travelers connecting through the airline’s hub in Istanbul, a 6.4% increase from 2023.
The airline also maintained growth during the busy holiday season in December, where international and domestic traffic both experienced year-over-year increases. Turkish Airlines’ strategy of balancing passenger and cargo operations proved to be a key factor in its overall success for the year.
Looking ahead, Turkish Airlines is poised to sustain its momentum with a focus on network expansion and operational efficiency. With a growing fleet and a commitment to connecting global travelers, the airline continues to strengthen its position as one of the world’s leading carriers.
