Turkish Airlines has suspended its flights to New York as it becomes the epicenter of the American coronavirus outbreak with 39,140 active cases and 365 deaths.
Turkish Airlines CEO Bilal Eksi tweeted, As of March 27, 2020, 23:59 [March 27, 0859 GMT], only limited international flights will continue until April 17, 2020…Accordingly, the New York line was canceled”.
Eksi later tweeted, “Scheduled and unscheduled flights to Russian airports from abroad are stopped with NOTAM published by Russia.” As a result, from the previously announced 5 international routes, Moscow and New York flights are removed.
The remaining international routes of Turkish Airlines are flights to Hong Kong, Addis Ababa, and Washington.
Cargo flights and domestic flights will continue. However, there is a drop in the number of frequencies as demand drops in passenger flights.
