An Italian tourist, identified as LS, has been deported and blacklisted from Bali after being caught on security footage engaging in a sexual act in front of a house in Seminyak.
The incident, which occurred on September 9, has sparked discussions on social media and has led to the enforcement of stricter regulations on tourists in the region.
LS, 35, had arrived in Bali on September 4, with a Visa on Arrival due to expire on October 3. He was staying in a hotel in Kuta and had reportedly been out drinking at a nightclub when he met an unidentified woman. The pair agreed to find a hotel but were later caught in the act in front of a local resident’s house, leading to LS’s arrest and subsequent deportation.
The local resident, whose security camera recorded the incident, initially thought someone was urinating in his front yard after his dog kept barking. However, upon checking the CCTV footage, he and his wife discovered the pair engaging in a sexual act. The woman involved in the incident is understood to be Indonesian and has not been arrested.
Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Sugito, confirmed LS’s deportation, stating he was sent on Malaysia Airlines to Kuala Lumpur, before boarding a Qatar Airways flight to Doha, and then to Rome, Italy. Sugito mentioned in a press release that LS’s name would be included in the deterrence list, facing Immigration Administrative Action in the form of deportation. LS could remain on the immigration blacklist for six months, extendable by six months at a time.
This incident has highlighted the increasing number of deportations from Bali, with over 200 people deported in the first eight months of the year, including 12 Australians, compared to 188 for the entire previous year. Bali has recently released a list of dos and don’ts for tourists, reflecting a growing intolerance for unruly foreign behavior and a commitment to maintaining law and order in the popular tourist destination.
This incident follows another episode involving Italian tourists earlier in August, where Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had to swiftly intervene. Four Italian tourists had dined and dashed in Albania’s southern city of Berat. The Prime Minister ensured that the unsettled bill was promptly paid, maintaining the cordial relations between the two countries. These successive incidents involving Italian nationals underscore the necessity for responsible and respectful conduct while visiting foreign nations.
