The state of Yucatan was once again a major winner at the annual industry-driven Travvy Awards, where it won the “Best Tourism Board – Mexico” accolade for the second year in a row, along with also being named “Best Culinary Destination – Mexico,” a tourism offering the ministry has been pushing to position as part of its promotional campaign.
The state of Yucatan has also been named Best Wedding Destination – Mexico at the 2020 edition.
The 7th annual Travvy Awards were held in conjunction with Travel Weekly’sCruiseWorld event at the Miami Beach Convention Center this evening, adding more wins to a successful year in terms of awards for the Mexican state, which also saw its destinations recognized among the top “Cities in Mexico” by Travel + Leisure and “Best Large City in the World” by Condé-Nast Traveler.
Yucatan’s state Ministry of Tourism, headed by Michelle Fridman Hirsch, is about to ensure its place in the annals of Mexican tourism by hosting the first Tianguis Turístico confab to be held after the Covid-19 pandemic. The event will mark the rebirth of tourism to Mexico, historically one of the top 10 most visited destinations in the world, per the World Tourism Organization, and the most visited international destination for U.S. and Canadian travelers.
Taking place Nov. 16 to 19, this year’s Tianguis Turistico is Mexico’s largest and most important travel and tourism event and one of the biggest in Latin America. This year, Yucatan is expected to welcome more than 10,000 participants, including representatives from Mexico’s 32 states, as well as travel buyers and media from more than 42 countries, Yucatan officials have confirmed.
“We are honored to be recognized by our peers for our work in the positioning of the state of Yucatan’s tourism offering at this year’s Travvy Awards,” said Tourism Minister Fridman.
“The rebuilding of the tourism industry in our state, and Mexico’s, has been incredibly important, as it represents the livelihood of so many people in our country and impacts so much of the international travel and tourism industry. We take these awards as a sign that my team at the Yucatan Ministry of Tourism is doing a fruitful job at positioning our state and look forward to the renewal of the country’s general tourism industry as we start this year’s Tianguis Turistico.”
