Former US President Donald Trump has announced that if he wins the 2024 presidential elections, he intends to reinstate and expand the travel ban imposed on Muslim countries during his presidency and deploy federal law enforcement agencies along the Mexico border.
According to reports in the US media, Trump made these statements during a rally in Dubuque, Iowa. He criticized President Joe Biden’s immigration policies, labeling them a “nation-destroying disaster.” Trump declared that if re-elected, he would adopt the “Eisenhower Model” and organize “the largest deportation operation in US history.”
Trump stated that he would station some federal law enforcement forces at the Mexico border and would deport all individuals known or suspected to be drug dealers, gang, or cartel members. He emphasized that during his presidency, he transformed the country’s immigration policies from “catch and release” to “detain and deport.” He asserted that he would bring back the travel ban and increase the number of countries on the ban list to prevent the entry of “communists and Marxists” into the US.
Trump had imposed a travel ban on Iran, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Chad, and North Korea a week after taking office on January 27, 2017. However, President Biden lifted this travel ban directed at some Muslim countries in his first week in office through an executive order.
