Looking to shift the narrative around working in tourism, TourismHR Canada has launched the second in a series of videos showcasing the diversity of opportunities available across the country.
The videos are a taste of a full attraction and retention platform to be launched this spring: Discover Tourism.
With experiences ranging from hotels to wineries, Indigenous tourism to destination marketing, what shines through each story is a passion for an industry that has something to offer everyone and can lead to a fulfilling career.
While general perceptions are of frontline, low-paid work, these tourism leaders share that the skills they learned in early roles were instrumental to becoming managers, executives, and entrepreneurs in a vibrant, global industry. Also highlighted: tourism isn’t just customer-facing jobs—there are opportunities in finance, marketing, social media, human resources, IT, and more.
As part of its mandate to build a resilient, inclusive, and diverse tourism workforce, Tourism HR Canada has multiple federally funded initiatives underway. The Discover Tourism campaign is joined by additions and updates to its Emerit training and certification programs, labour market intelligence, educator resources, market-ready tools, and more.
With a tourism workforce that remains over 170,000 individuals lower than the same month pre-pandemic, the organization will continue to showcase the many advantages of tourism employment and provide research and resources to equip employers with innovative HR strategies and practices.
Whether a student exploring what to pursue, a professional looking for a change, or a newcomer seeking new opportunities, get inspired.
