Russian Railways records rise in number of passengers

According to the latest figures, in November 2017, 91.25 million passengers travelled on the infrastructure owned by Russian Railways, which is 3.2% more than in November 2016.

Suburban passenger numbers amounted to 83.65 million, an increase of 3.3%, while long-distance trains carried 7.6 million passengers, up 2.7%.

Passenger turnover in November 2017 amounted to 8.5 billion passenger-km, 0.1% more than in November 2016. Suburban passenger turnover amounted to 2.5 billion passenger-km, an increase of 0.1%, while long-distance passenger turnover was up 0.1% to 6 billion pass-km.

In January-November 2017, a total of 1.03 billion passengers travelled, 8.1% more compared to January-November 2016, with 94.4 million long-distance passengers, an increase of 0.2%, while suburban numbers rose to 930.3 million, a rise of 8.9%.

Passenger turnover on the network owned by Russian Railways decreased by 1.8% from the beginning of 2017 compared to last year and amounted to 114 billion passenger-kilometres. Suburban, passenger turnover amounted to 29.3 billion pass-km an increase of 2.8%, but long-distance passenger turnover was down to 84.7 billion pass-km, a decline of 3.2%.
