Global travel retailer Avolta has secured an eight-year extension for its travel retail operations at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, covering more than 1,400 square metres of space in the airport’s busiest terminal.
The agreement, which covers Terminal 4, keeps Avolta as Phoenix Sky Harbor’s exclusive duty-free retailer. The extended contract spans travel convenience, specialty retail and duty-free across a mix of travel essentials, local concepts and global brands.
Avolta’s duty-free range is tailored to the airport’s key international routes. Tequila selections are curated for Mexico-bound passengers, premium bourbons for travellers heading to Canada, and prestige skincare products for passengers flying to major East Asian destinations.
The retailer also brings a stronger sense of local identity to Terminal 4 through concepts that reflect Phoenix, Arizona and the surrounding Valley communities.
Under the extended agreement, Avolta will redevelop three existing stores from 2029, introducing refreshed retail concepts to further strengthen the terminal’s overall offer.
“We are proud to extend our partnership with the City of Phoenix,” said Steve Johnson, President and CEO, North America, Avolta. “Our continued investment in Sky Harbor reflects our confidence in Phoenix’s future as both a destination and a hub and demonstrates our commitment to enriching its vibrant airport environment.”
Phoenix Sky Harbor, which markets itself as America’s Friendliest Airport, has seen continued growth in international passenger numbers. Airport officials say the renewed partnership is designed to match that trajectory.
“As international travel continues to grow at America’s Friendliest Airport, it is essential we offer our travelers a retail experience that reflects both quality and a global experience,” said Roxann Favors, Assistant Aviation Director and Chief Revenue Officer. “Avolta’s commitment to innovation, premium brand offerings, and traveler-focused service aligns with our mission to enhance the guest experience.”
Avolta, listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange, is one of the world’s largest travel retail and food and beverage operators, with a presence across airports, motorways and other travel locations globally. The Phoenix extension reinforces the company’s footprint in the United States market at a time when North American airport retail is recovering strongly from pandemic-era lows.
Terminal 4 is the primary hub for most domestic and international flights at Phoenix Sky Harbor, one of the ten busiest airports in the United States by passenger volume. The terminal serves major carriers including American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and international operators connecting Phoenix to destinations in Latin America, Canada and Asia.
The store redevelopment programme, set to begin in 2029, is expected to bring updated layouts and new brand partnerships to the concession spaces Avolta operates within the terminal. No financial terms for the extension were disclosed.
