The world’s best burger can now be found in Valencia, Spain, according to the latest announcement from The World’s Best Burgers guide.
For the first time, a Spanish burger restaurant has claimed the top spot in the prestigious ranking, previously dominated by American establishments.
Hundred Burgers, a rapidly rising name in the gourmet burger scene, has been crowned as the best burger restaurant in the world after a thorough evaluation by the jury, who visited more than 800 burger joints across 60 countries.
Founded in 2020 by Alex González-Urbón and Ezequiel Maldjian, Hundred Burgers has quickly expanded to four locations in Valencia and three in Madrid. The restaurant has been praised for its “artisan approach and its constant evolution in search of perfection.”
What sets Hundred Burgers apart is its commitment to quality and freshness: the demi-brioche bread is baked fresh every morning, and the dry-aged Galician blonde beef used in their burgers is minced daily.
This recognition comes as the burger scene in Spain has been gaining significant momentum over the last few years, surprising even the most seasoned burger connoisseurs. Burgerdudes, the world’s leading burger experts, noted in their updated list of the world’s best burgers for 2024 that Spain now boasts some of the best burgers they’ve ever tasted. With the inclusion of Hundred Burgers, Briochef in Madrid at the 17th position, and Soul Coffee Beer in Valencia at the 10th spot, Spain is firmly establishing itself as a global destination for exceptional burgers.
The diversity in burger styles is highlighted in Burgerdudes’ list, which ranges from thick, flavor-packed dry-aged beef patties to flashy smash burgers with super-crispy crusts. All 25 burgers on their list, including the ones from Spain, have received the coveted five-star rating, underscoring the high standards of quality and taste these establishments have achieved.
This year, Hundred Burgers made a notable impact on both experts and fans alike. The restaurant’s flagship location in Valencia offers an inviting atmosphere to enjoy their top-rated burgers, such as the Paul Finch burger, made with up to 120 days dry-aged beef, which has become a standout choice for those looking to push the boundaries of what a burger can be. Their dedication to craftsmanship and constant evolution is apparent in their unique offerings like the gochujang sauce in the Loser burger or the super crispy bacon in their Singular burger.
The award marks a turning point in the history of the world’s best burgers list, as this is the first time a non-American burger restaurant has topped the chart, breaking the stronghold of US-based eateries like New York’s Pizza Loves Emily, which held the number one position until this year. Alongside Hundred Burgers on the podium are two American burger joints: Au Cheval in Chicago, securing third place, and Pizza Loves Emily in New York, now ranked second.
Spanish cuisine, renowned for its excellence in haute cuisine, has shown its versatility with three burger joints making it into the top 25 in the world. This recognition further cements Spain’s position as a global culinary powerhouse. With the presence of Bodega El Capricho as the second-best grill house on the planet, Spain’s culinary scene continues to thrive and diversify.
Fortunately, for burger lovers in Spain, there’s no need to book a flight to the United States to taste the best burger in the world. With Hundred Burgers at the top of the list, the finest burgers can now be enjoyed right in Valencia.
