Thailand successfully hosted inaugural PTT Thailand Grand Prix. Over 41,000 and 81,000 fans, respectively attended the Friday and Saturday qualifying sessions before the action packed final on Sunday with over 100,000 fans.
Honda’s Marc Marquez took a thrilling win in the first-ever MotoGP Grand Prix of Thailand on Sunday, narrowly beating Andrea Dovizioso of Ducati and Maverick Vinales of Yamaha to increase his championship lead and move closer to another world title. The event is held at Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand.
The finish vindicated Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Weerasak Kowsurat, who courageously had the foresight and tough-minded perseverance to dream big and help Thailand take its rightful place as one of Asia’s leading sports tourism destinations. He was particularly excited about the response from international visitors that travel worldwide specifically for MotoGP events.
Buri Ram is the 28th circuit to hold a MotoGP race since it replaced the 500cc class as the premier class of motorcycle Grand Prix racing in 2002.
In addition, Thailand is the 20th different country to host a MotoGP race since 2002 and the 7th different Asian country to host a Grand Prix after Qatar, Turkey, Japan, Malaysia, China and Indonesia.
The next race will take place at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit in Japan.
