On March 13, 2022, the 5th annual Galatzó Trail will take place; an international mountain race that takes place on the Galatzó Public Estate, which covers some of Majorca’s most impressive landscapes in the Serra de Tramuntana Mountain range, a UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape.
The race is split into two challenges, the Galatzó Legend (43 km) and the Galatzó Half (23 km). Organizers have worked tirelessly to continually improve the event and adapt it to the needs of the participants. For 2022 new and improved race circuits have been designed, due to be launched in March.
Participant costs are euros 50 and 45 respectively, including the race kit.
Changes to the route of the Galatzó Legend (43 KM)
Thanks to the restoration of “Camí de sa Font Nova”, an old road with a spectacular view of the Finca de Galatzó Public Estate, it has been possible to create an enhanced circuit that is still equally as challenging as the old one.
On the track, two-way sections in the race are reduced.
The hilly nature of the final stretch in Ses Planes has been scrapped and has been replaced by a path with picturesque views of the Majorcan countryside on a more forgiving terrain.
Changes to the route of Galatzó Half (23 KM)
The new Galatzó Half marathon is perfect for those who want to try mountain marathons for the first time. The track will feature a more scenic route to previous years and is increasingly challenging and technical in response to the comments of participants. The changes in the circuit for 2022 give participants the opportunity to scale one of the island’s iconic peaks amongst the Serra de Tramuntana, Sa Mola de s’Esclop (927 m). To achieve this, the route’s direction has been reversed, introducing new areas to the itinerary, such as the historic path of Pas des Cosi. The relocation will also contribute towards Majorca’s sustainability initiatives by reducing the erosion of the natural landscape.
An international challenge with local flavor
The Galatzó Trail is an event that allows participants to fully enjoy the experience of competing as an athlete on the island, no matter what level of their ability. This is not only reserved to the event and sporting infrastructure but also in terms of culture and community spirit. In addition to the track running through the iconic Majorcan countryside and to the nutritious produce offered at the refreshment stations, the race includes stops where typical Majorcan cuisine can be sampled, such as Ensaimadas, sobrasada or coca de trampó, amongst others. The event will be organised by over 100 volunteers who all belong to local sports clubs in the region. Even the branding, merchandising and race kits clearly identify with the territory. The overall aim is for every participant to appreciate from beginning to end the lasting importance of the race they are running in, and enjoying in Majorca.
