Kanye West performed in Istanbul for the first time on 30 May 2026, drawing a crowd of 118,000 to Ataturk Olympic Stadium and claiming a new world record for the largest stadium concert attendance in history.
The concert, organised in cooperation with NTRteam, attracted fans not only from Turkiye but also from the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Russia, Poland, and the Middle East. The show served as the opening night of West’s first European tour in 11 years, following cancellations in the UK, France, Switzerland and Poland due to the rapper’s antisemitic remarks.
Globe Stage and All-Night Spectacle
The performance featured a globe-shaped stage design inspired by West’s SoFi Stadium shows in Los Angeles, supported by intense light displays, fog effects and synchronised visuals. As thousands of fans switched on their mobile phone lights, the stadium’s stands and field created a vivid visual scene that drew widespread attention on social media.
The event extended well beyond a single concert, evolving into an all-night entertainment programme that included DJ sets, laser shows, pre- and after-party gatherings, and performances by Turkish artists. Stadium gates opened at 3pm local time to manage the anticipated influx of concertgoers. Metro stations across Istanbul filled rapidly, with the M9 Atakoy-Olimpiyat line bearing the heaviest crowds as platforms and corridors reached capacity before showtime.
Celebrities and International Visitors
The event drew a notable international crowd alongside prominent figures from Turkiye’s entertainment world, including actors Sukru Ozyildiz, Alina Boz, Nilperi Sahinkaya, Hazar Erguclu, Yasemin Allen, Afra Saracoglu and Asli Tandogan, as well as presenter Ayse Tolga, businessman Umut Evirgen, and musicians Elif Buse Dogan and Burak Kut.
West, who published a full-page apology in the Wall Street Journal in January 2026 stating he is not antisemitic, launched his long-awaited European return from Istanbul amid ongoing bans in several Western European countries. The Istanbul concert was widely seen as the most significant milestone of his international comeback.
