The holidays are bigger and brighter than ever in Seattle with new events and unique gifts and experiences around every corner.
Join Visit Seattle’s enchanting Mistress of Wonderland Jinkx Monsoon in the latest VISITSEATTLE.tv series, Let’s Unwrap This Town, which takes visitors and residents alike on a behind the scenes peek of what the city has to offer for kids, from one to 92.
“The holidays are such a special time in Seattle, filled with bright lights, cold nights and time-honored traditions, but also fresh and exciting events,” Visit Seattle President and CEO Tom Norwalk said. “With special holiday and winter rates on hotels throughout the city, there’s no better time to bring your family or that special someone to Seattle for an unforgettable holiday getaway.”
With her fiery red tresses and elfin-green ball gown, Jinkx Monsoon explores new holiday events, like Enchant Christmas at Safeco Field, which features the world’s largest Christmas Light Maze. Fun for anyone and all ages, this special event features light sculptures up to 80-feet high, a snowy, lazy river ice skating trail, a winter wonderland artisan market and seasonal food, beverage and entertainment.
Visitors can also take a walk on the wild side with a visit to WildLights at Woodland Park Zoo where more than 375,000 lights make the night merry amid the colorful residents.
Time-honored traditions are a must when in Seattle, like the world-renowned Pacific Northwest Ballet who performs George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker in November and December. Visitors should also check out musical performances by the Seattle’s Symphony who will perform Handel’s Messiah and the Seattle Men’s Chorus who will put on A Sassy Brassy Holiday this season.
If giving back is at the top of your list this holiday, Seattle has amazing events for everyone. Spectators are welcome to sing along at the annual Figgy Pudding Caroling Competition at Westlake Center Dec. 7. This event is hosted by Pike Place Market’s Senior Center and proceeds benefit the organization’s center and food bank. Raise money for the northwest chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation by attending the Sheraton Grand Seattle’s 26th Annual Gingerbread Village Nov. 19 to January 1. Seattle’s top architecture firms, master builders and Sheraton Grand Seattle culinary teams come together to recreate the famous scenes from the beloved, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. From the city’s main square, to mount crumpet, all of Whoville will be on display in pieces that are up to 8-feet tall and weigh up to 300 pounds.
Worried about fitting in exercise to your holiday travels, Seattle also has you covered there. Don’t miss the Seattle Marathon Nov. 25 or the Polar Bear Plunge at Lake Washington’s Matthew’s Beach on New Year’s Day. But if riding in style is more your style, then don’t miss the Holiday Carousel at Westlake Park or Argosy Cruises’ Christmas ShipTM Festival two traditions that take holiday merriment to the next level.
