Spalliera Christmas lights in Singapore

Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay dazzles with illuminating light displays for Christmas

Visitorship to Singapore’s iconic Gardens by the Bay has blossomed since it opened its doors in 2012. In 2022, it received about 6.4 million visitors, and this number is expected to rise to eight million in 2023.

The annual Christmas Wonderland is a must-see highlight of Singapore’s exciting year-end celebrations, and has brought bringing festive cheer and a taste of winter to close to five million visitors of all ages since its debut in 2014.

Visitors will be able to explore three magical zones covering 27,000 square metres. The Supertree Grove—the fairground’s largest zone— is undoubtedly the highlight of the event.

Christmas Wonderland 2023’s main showpiece, the Spalliera, an Italian-made marvel intricately handmade by Italian craftsmen, and it takes centre stage at every edition of the event with different designs.

Undoubtedly the most Instagrammable spot, this show-stopping Italian handcrafted light display glows magnificently with 103,000-lit bulbs at 20 metres high – roughly the height of five double-decker buses. It stands majestically with a design inspired by the Mesola Castle in north Italy’s province of Ferrara.  It is said that the craftsmen took over 30 days to set up the installation.

The highly popular Blizzard Time also returns to the stunning backdrop of the Spalliera. Visitors can experience ‘snow’ in the tropics alongside the Garden Rhapsody light and sound show. Alongside this, a captivating light show will be projected onto the surrounding trees, perfectly synchronised with Christmas musical tunes.

Another highlight at Supertree Grove is the Holly Roger ship with its crew of merry pirate elves and Santa. Illuminated by approximately 127,000 bulbs, this brand-new 24-metre-long festive light display is a glistening sight to behold.

Also the Walk of Lights, which is a 65-metre-long tunnel, features approximately 75,000 programmable strung LED lights.

Frosty’s Fairground – the event’s carnival zone – boasts a range of classic carnival games and challenges, like ring toss and blockbuster, alongside bumper cars and carousel rides. For a magical ride of a lifetime, visit Lumiland, an illuminated fairground filled with enchanting seesaws, swings and lights.

Those with a sweet tooth will be able to get in the festive mood at the Gingerbread Grove, with its vibrantly-lit Gingerbread house, illuminated candy canes and dessert stalls galore.

With its light displays, festive activities, and carnival rides, Christmas Wonderland at Gardens by the Bay promises to be an extraordinary celebration for all!
