World’s Best Vineyards 2024: Top Wine Destinations Unveiled

The World’s Best Vineyards has unveiled its list of the top 50 wine destinations for 2024, spotlighting wineries that offer exceptional wine experiences and embody the richness of global wine culture.

Announced at the picturesque Nyetimber Estate in West Sussex, this year’s top 50 includes both iconic estates and hidden gems, drawing winemakers and vineyard enthusiasts from around the world.

Claiming the prestigious top spot is Bodegas De Los Herederos Del Marqués De Riscal in Rioja, Spain. Established in 1858, Marqués de Riscal is celebrated for its exceptional wines and striking architecture. Designed by Frank Gehry, the luxurious hotel overlooking the vineyards is a highlight, offering visitors a unique wine-paired dining experience with exquisite local flavors.

Following closely in second place is VIK in Chile, awarded the title of World’s Best Vineyards Continent Winner for South America.

Known for its sleek, futuristic design, the vineyard’s reflective titanium roof merges seamlessly with the valley’s natural landscape. Beyond wine tastings and vineyard tours, guests can explore the grounds on horseback, creating a memorable adventure.

Creation in South Africa takes third place, winning the Best Vineyard in Africa award. Famous for its gourmet tasting menus that perfectly complement its wines, Creation also offers educational insights into vineyard management, providing wine enthusiasts with a deeper understanding of the winemaking process.

Coming in fourth, Bodegas Ysios in Spain’s Rioja region was named the Highest Climber, having leaped 67 places from last year. Visitors can enjoy private vineyard tours, complete with a personal sommelier and driver, enhancing the experience of Rioja’s fine wines and cutting-edge architecture.

The fifth place went to Schloss Johannisberg in Germany, renowned as the birthplace of Riesling. With over 1,200 years of winemaking history, this former monastery turned castle offers stunning views of the Rhine River and a window into centuries-old winemaking traditions.

Highlights from the Top 50

Spain leads this year’s rankings with eight vineyards in the top 50, three of which are in the top 10. France also boasts eight vineyards, with several renowned Champagne houses, such as Maison Ruinart (6th place) and Champagne Bollinger (12th place), making the list. Other notable winners include Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa Valley, named Best Vineyard in North America, and D’Arenberg in Australia, honored as Best Vineyard in Australasia.

Catena Zapata, the 2023 World’s Best Vineyard, has been inducted into the Hall of Fame, recognizing vineyards that have previously claimed the top spot.
