China Eastern Airlines Plane Crashes in Mountains

China Eastern Airlines plane with 133 people on board had an accident in Tengxian county of South China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, reports state media.

The Boeing-737 was en route from the southwestern city of Kunming to Guangzhou when it lost contact with the city of Wuzhou. Onboard were 123 passengers and nine crew members, according to China’s Civil Aviation Administration.

State-run Global Times reported that a fire erupted at the site.

“At present, rescue teams have been deployed and are approaching the crash site,” the daily said.

Footage posted online and shared by state media People’s Daily shows plumes of smoke billowing from a mountainous, forested area. Another clip shows what appears to be wreckage from the plane on a muddy, mountain path.
