Princess Cruises has announced that its flagship vessel, the Discovery Princess, will anchor in Sydney as its home port for the 2025/26 summer season in Australia.
This announcement marks a significant milestone for the cruise line, as the Discovery Princess will be the largest ship they’ve ever homeported in Australia in their 50-year cruising legacy.
Launched in 2022, the Discovery Princess is a marvel of modern cruise engineering. Weighing in at 145,000 tons and stretching 1,083 feet in length across 19 decks, it can accommodate 3,660 guests. The ship is set to make its grand debut in Sydney in October 2025, with a variety of itineraries originating from Australia.
The news was shared by Princess Cruises President, John Padgett, during his visit to Sydney. “Nearly half a century has passed since Princess Cruises introduced the Pacific Princess ship to Sydney’s shores. To mark this significant occasion, we’re thrilled to announce the future deployment of the Discovery Princess, reinforcing our commitment to the Australian market,” remarked Padgett.
The Discovery Princess is the third vessel designed with the Princess MedallionClass and is the sixth in the Royal-Class lineup. It boasts features comparable to its sister ships – Enchanted Princess, Sky Princess, Majestic Princess, Regal Princess, and Royal Princess. Guests aboard can expect 270-degree panoramic views from the expansive Sky Suites balconies, world-class dining experiences, and the exclusive 360: An Extraordinary Experience, a sensory journey combining storytelling, visual entertainment, and gourmet cuisine.
Furthermore, the ship offers an impressive range of amenities. From 14 exquisite restaurants, 10 bars, and lounges, to the SeaWalk, a glass-bottomed walkway extending 28 feet beyond the ship’s edge. Guests can also indulge in private poolside cabanas, four main pools, 10 hot tub spas, and the Lotus Spa, which features Princess’ largest-ever thermal suite.
Over 82% of the ship’s staterooms come with a private balcony, ensuring guests can soak in the ocean’s beauty from the comfort of their rooms. Additionally, the Princess exclusive MedallionClass experience ensures a personalized service level, offering conveniences like contactless payment, keyless stateroom entry, and food or service orders delivered directly to guests.
Padgett expressed his excitement about the Discovery Princess joining the Australian fleet for the 2025/26 summer season. The ship will sail alongside other Princess ships, Crown Princess and Grand Princess. Details of the summer program, including the longest World Cruise yet, will be unveiled next month.
The full program will be announced on November 15, 2023, with sales commencing on November 29, 2023.
