Turkish Airlines, renowned for flying to more countries than any other airline, has now added Detroit to its growing list of destinations.
Starting November 15, 2023, the airline began operating flights three times a week from Istanbul Airport to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. This service is set to increase to four times a week post-December 25, 2023, marking a new chapter in the airline’s history.
The inauguration of the Detroit route signifies Turkish Airlines’ commitment to expanding its network, now encompassing 345 destinations worldwide, including 13 in the United States. The first flight to Detroit was celebrated with a traditional water cannon salute, a gesture of welcome and respect in the aviation world. This event, held at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, saw the gathering of local dignitaries, Turkish Airlines executives, and aviation enthusiasts, all witnessing this historic moment.
Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, expressed his enthusiasm at the ceremony. “Today marks a milestone as we celebrate the inaugural flight to Detroit. This new route brings Istanbul and Detroit closer, fostering opportunities for travel, business, and cultural exchange,” he said. Bolat emphasized the airline’s mission of connecting people and cultures globally, highlighting the significance of adding destinations like Detroit to its extensive network.
