Transwestern Hospitality Group (THG) has recently announced its acquisition of Hotel Granduca, a prestigious 122-key luxury property located at 1080 Uptown Park Boulevard.
This acquisition marks a significant move in the hospitality industry, as THG partners Tyler Lavin and Thomas Duncan, along with Transwestern’s investment team, spearhead a comprehensive repositioning project for this renowned hotel.
Hotel Granduca, known for its five-star status, is nestled in a walkable, amenity-rich enclave between the River Oaks and Galleria submarkets. “This is a rare opportunity to embrace the individuality of one of the city’s most distinct hospitality spaces,” said Tyler Lavin. He emphasized the growing demand among travelers for memorable and authentic experiences, highlighting the unique position of Hotel Granduca in meeting these expectations.
Thomas Duncan added, “With Transwestern’s integrated platform and top talent in the hospitality space, our team is equipped to bring a bold vision to life, creating an unmatched environment for both Houston’s residents and visitors.” This vision involves a collaboration with Ring on Hook, specialists in hospitality renovations and venue activations, and other placemaking consultants.
The repositioning, set to begin in mid-year 2024, will see Kara Childress Inc., a design firm renowned for blending old-world beauty with modern functionality, take the lead in interior design. Westmont Hospitality Group has been chosen to operate the hotel, ensuring a seamless transition and continued excellence in service.
The planned updates for Hotel Granduca are extensive and include a transformation of the design, guest experience, amenity package, and food and beverage program. The ground floor will be reimagined into a vibrant gathering space, featuring a destination restaurant. Additionally, the hotel will see enlarged and improved event spaces, new workout facilities, and curated programming, all designed to cater to a clientele seeking a boutique hospitality ambiance.
Robert Duncan, Transwestern Chairman, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to elevate the Granduca hospitality experience. “Our good friend, Giorgio Borlenghi, as Master Developer of Uptown, originally designed and built this iconic hotel with his signature quality standards and remarkable eye for detail. We are privileged to further enhance this extraordinary property,” he said. Giorgio Borlenghi will remain a stakeholder and consultant in the project, ensuring the hotel’s legacy and potential are fully realized.
The acquisition and repositioning of Hotel Granduca by Transwestern Hospitality Group represent a significant development in Houston’s luxury hotel landscape. With its strategic location, unique design, and planned enhancements, Hotel Granduca is poised to offer an unparalleled experience for guests seeking luxury and authenticity in their travels.
