The ceremony showcased winners of the FiturNext 2024 Challenge, which focused on how tourism could alleviate depopulation. Nuria Salvador, representing Recartografías, along with Miguel Ángel Herrera, Mayor of Genalguacil, and Marta Calvente, Councilor of Tourism, stood out among the awardees. These projects exemplify the transformative power of tourism in reinvigorating local communities and economies.
Insights from the FiturNext 2024 Report
Francisco Rodríguez, head of the tourism area at Ideas for Change, presented the FiturNext 2024 report titled “Towards Territorial Revitalization Through Tourism.” The report collates best practices in tourism and concludes that offering tourism services can revitalize territories by creating new opportunities and improving public services.
A Focus on Rural Revitalization and Community Engagement
Panel discussions and presentations by various representatives provided deeper insights. Daniel Riera and Isabel San Juan discussed the success story of land stewardship in Mas Blanco and San Agustín (Teruel).
They highlighted how these regions are leveraging their natural resources and tourism for community development.
