Fort Lauderdale adds direct flight to Venezuela

After a 10-year absence, a new direct flight restarted between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Caracas, Venezuela. The Fort Lauderdale airport had not had regularly scheduled service to the Venezuelan capital since 2005, when American Airlines ended its service on that route and on Friday (July 17), Dynamic International Airways, based in Greensboro, N.C., launched the new service.

“This is the beginning of a journey we’d like to add to and we’re going to continue to increase this service. Reservations from Caracas, especially for August, are looking good,” Dynamic CEO Paul Kraus said.

Promotional fares on the new route started at $599 roundtrip and included two bags free in economy class and three in business, as well as free alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage service.

The carrier is operating 242-passenger Boeing 767-300ER aircraft on the Fort Lauderdale-to-Caracas route that initially will run Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The service could become daily in about six weeks, Kraus said.

Dynamic is interested in expanding its international presence from Fort Lauderdale and also is studying other routes such as Brazil and Latin America, he said.

The niche carrier also plans to add service from Fort Lauderdale to Venezuela’s western city of Maracaibo later this year, officials have said.

South Florida is home to more than 85,000 people of Venezuelan descent, recent U.S. census data show.
