Fancy a US$64,000 train journey across Vietnam?

SJourney is Vietnam’s first luxury sleeper train that is designed like a moving Indochine-style boutique hotel. It features gold-plated details, butler services, and fine-dining bistro cars. The train transports guests on an 8-day journey spanning 1,726 km between the capital city of Hanoi in the north and bustling Ho Chi Minh City in the south.

Operating as a land cruise, the train travels predominantly at night – meaning passengers retire in one province and wake to breakfast in another, ready for a full day of curated excursions before re-boarding.  The 13-carriage train carries a maximum of 60 guests in 10-square-metre cabins with en-suite bathrooms, mini bars and wardrobes.

News suites will be launched in September

From 30 September 2026, SJourney will introduce new ultra-premium suite categories by adding two new suite categories, which are the Imperial Suite, which will be priced at approximately nearly 1.7 billion Vietnamese dong (about US$64,600) per passenger, while the Suite will cost around 860 million Vietnamese dong (about US$32,6000) for the journey.

The new suite categories are priced far above SJourney’s standard accommodation, which costs around 200 million Vietnamese dong (about US$7,600) per passenger. While following the same itinerary as other guests, travellers in the premium suites will enjoy a range of exclusive privileges and personalised services.

The new Imperial Suite spans 51 square meters and occupies an entire carriage, offering three times the space of a standard suite. Meanwhile, the Suite category features 17-square-meter accommodations, with two rooms housed in each carriage.

Premium offerings

While maintaining the train’s signature Indochine-inspired design, both room categories will feature upgraded interiors and amenities tailored to high-end travellers. Among the most distinctive additions are private balconies, allowing passengers to enjoy Vietnam’s landscapes in the open air rather than through conventional train windows.

Guests will also receive dedicated butler service, customised dining options, VIP transfers, and a range of bespoke experiences throughout the journey.

The operator also plans to introduce a new upscale restaurant on board. Although accessible to all passengers, guests staying in the Imperial Suite and Suite will be able to reserve the venue for private dining experiences.

Currently, SJourney operates between four and six departures each month, offering two main itineraries: the eight-day, seven-night journey linking Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and shorter four-day, three-night routes connecting Hanoi with Sa Pa and Ha Long, as well as Ho Chi Minh City with Hoi An.

Since launching in December 2024, SJourney has served more than 2,000 passengers, primarily from North America, Western Europe, Australia, and affluent Asian markets.

According to the company, departures during the peak travel season from September to April are frequently fully booked.

“After about one and a half years of operation, SJourney has established itself as a distinctive slow-travel experience in Vietnam’s luxury tourism sector,” the operator said, noting that the service has received strong feedback from international travellers.
