Ottawa is gearing up to host the esteemed 11th Annual International Indigenous Tourism Conference from February 25th to 28th, 2024. The event, set on the unceded Algonquin Anishinaabeg Territory, is organized by the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC).
The conference, which will be held at Ottawa’s award-winning Shaw Center, expects to welcome over 1,000 delegates spanning four days. ITAC, a leading advocate for authentic Indigenous experiences, has been pivotal in fostering partnerships and bolstering economic growth within Indigenous communities nationwide. Their collaborations with various associations, organizations, government departments, and industry leaders have significantly contributed to the development and marketing of unique cultural experiences. With a vision to position Canada as the global leader in Indigenous tourism by 2030, ITAC is making strides in the right direction.
Lesley Mackay, Ottawa Tourism’s Vice President of Meeting and Major Events, expressed her enthusiasm about the upcoming event. “The 2024 International Indigenous Tourism Conference is a milestone for Ottawa. ITAC offers a plethora of services, including economic development advisory, conferences, professional training, industry statistics, and information, all designed to empower Indigenous tourism operators and communities in the cultural tourism sector. Recently, Expedia Group announced a significant investment in Canada to bolster Indigenous tourism throughout Canada.
The association envisions a prosperous Indigenous tourism economy that provides visitors with genuine, memorable, and enriching experiences, celebrating the vast heritage and diverse cultures of Indigenous communities throughout Canada.
