IHG Debuts First Hotel Indigo in Malaysia, Expanding Global Portfolio

IHG Hotels & Resorts, a global leader in hospitality, has reached a significant milestone with the opening of Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur on the Park, the 150th Hotel Indigo property worldwide and the brand’s first foray into Malaysia. This landmark addition not only expands IHG’s global footprint but also introduces a unique hospitality experience to Kuala Lumpur’s vibrant landscape.

Nestled in the heart of Malaysia’s capital, the 180-room Hotel Indigo is an urban oasis overlooking the scenic Bukit Nanas and adjacent to the KL Forest Eco Park, the city’s sole remaining tropical rainforest. This distinct location has profoundly influenced the hotel’s design, brought to life by Malaysia-based GA Group. The designers have skillfully interwoven local cultural elements, historical references, and rainforest motifs into the hotel’s architecture and interiors, offering guests an immersive experience that resonates with the spirit of Kuala Lumpur.

Ashleigh Garside, General Manager of Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur, emphasizes the hotel’s commitment to celebrating the uniqueness of its neighborhood. “Our goal is to share the stories of Kuala Lumpur and inspire our guests to connect deeply with the city and its people. We aim to provide an authentically local stay experience that reflects our neighborhood’s charm and vibrancy.”

Sustainability is a core theme of Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur. The lobby welcomes guests with a living vertical garden and a central staircase crafted from old railway sleepers and reinforcement steel bars recycled from the hotel’s construction site. The commitment to eco-friendliness extends to artworks and installations created from recycled materials, showcasing a blend of sustainability and creativity.

The property’s design narrative is deeply rooted in Malaysian culture. Each corner of the hotel is adorned with local motifs and elements, such as tiffin carriers, rattan furniture, Peranakan tiles, and Chinese calendar pages, creating a rich tapestry of Malaysia’s heritage and traditions. These details not only decorate the space but also invite guests to explore Kuala Lumpur’s distinct identity.

The hotel’s Library in the lobby is a treasure trove of works by local authors, and many items in the guest rooms, including hand-woven baskets supporting the Penan community, are available for purchase.

Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur on the Park is part of IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio, known for hotels that reflect the character of their neighborhoods.
