Madrid hosts dentists around the world

Madrid is preparing to host one of the oldest events in the world, by the International Dental Federation. The 105th FDI World Dental Congress will take place from 29 August–1 September in Madrid, Spain, at IFEMA – Feria de Madrid. In collaboration with the Spanish Dental Association, this year’s theme focuses on ‘Bringing the world together to improve oral health’.

The congress in Madrid promises an international meeting point for sharing science, policy, information, the latest ideas and technologies in dentistry and oral health. Madrid will host more than 12,000 professionals at the congress. This year’s scientific programme offers insight on a range of topics from infection control to restorative dentistry to aesthetic dentistry. Sessions are also programmed in Spanish to cover areas such as periimplantitis, orthodontics and endodontics – to name a few.

Special international sessions are scheduled over the course of the four days including genetics, anesthesia and prosthodontics. Hot topics will address digital dentistry, dental materials, and oral pathology. Overall, more than 1,000 abstracts were received from almost 50 countries. Participants attending Madrid should expect over 100 national and international experts and more than 200 courses and special sessions – including FDI’s landmark ‘Meet the Expert’ courses.

Following the trend of matching conferences of neighboring disciplines, it will coincide with the World Oral Health Forum congress. This year’s World Oral Health Forum on 31 August (9:00–12:00, FDI Assembly and Forum Hall) is dedicated to periodontal health, covering the importance of periodontal disease, its preventability and treatability, and the current problems and recommended actions related to the disease. The programme also includes a joint session with the NCD Alliance on 30 August (11:30–13:00, Room 106) entitled ‘No health without oral health: How the dental community can leverage the NCD agenda to deliver on the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals’.
