serbian tourist on inflatable lounger

Serbian Tourist Rescued from Aegean Sea by Ferry

A Serbian tourist was dramatically and probably luckily rescued from the Aegean Sea yesterday afternoon after drifting away on an inflatable lounger between the Greek islands of Tilos and Mykonos.

The remarkable rescue took place when the ‘Super Express’ ferry, captained by Giannis Voutselakos, received a distress call from the coast guard about the missing tourist.

Captain Voutselakos, responding promptly to the coordinates provided by the coast guard, navigated the ferry towards the location.

The 40-year-old Serbian tourist was found semi-conscious, floating on the inflatable lounger.

The ferry crew swiftly acted to rescue the tourist, performing initial medical treatment onboard before transporting him to Tinos Island, where he was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Captain Voutselakos described the rescue as miraculous, given the stormy and rough sea conditions at the time.

“We received a report of a missing person near our route. Following the coordinates given by the coast guard, we found and saved the tourist. It was a miracle he survived, given the stormy weather and rough seas,” Voutselakos said.

The incident was also documented by the ferry’s first officer, Sideris Mamidis, who shared footage of the dramatic rescue on his Facebook page.

This heartwarming rescue story serves as a reminder of the dangers of the sea and the importance of swift action and coordination during emergencies.
