Valencia-Madrid High-Speed Rail Suspended Until Nov 3 Due to Flooding

Due to severe flooding in the Valencian Community, the high-speed rail line between Valencia and Madrid will remain out of service until at least Sunday, November 3.

The suspension is the result of heavy rainfall in the region, which has caused significant damage to the rail infrastructure, as confirmed by the Spanish Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.

Óscar Puente, the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, announced via his X account that the damage to the high-speed rail line is extensive, and repairs are expected to take several days. The Ministry, alongside Adif, Spain’s railway infrastructure manager, is working closely with emergency services to assess the situation, but the resumption of services before November 3 appears unlikely.

Adif stated that its teams are currently monitoring and evaluating the extent of the damage. The ongoing work is being coordinated with the State Security Forces, local emergency services, and other authorities to ensure that repairs can begin as soon as conditions allow. However, progress will depend on the evolving emergency situation caused by the floods in Valencia.

The suspension of rail services also affects the Mediterranean corridor, meaning that trains between Valencia and Barcelona are also halted. There is no immediate timeframe for when these services will resume, although authorities are closely monitoring the situation.

Local train services at Valencia’s main commuter hub have been disrupted as well. While some commuter routes may resume shortly, the full restoration of services will depend on the weather and the state of the railway infrastructure.

In coordination with Renfe, Spain’s national railway operator, Adif has announced that it will reopen the stations of Valencia Joaquín Sorolla, Valencia Nord, Madrid Chamartín Clara Campoamor, and Madrid Atocha, if necessary, to provide assistance to passengers affected by the disruption. This step is part of an effort to support travelers who may need accommodation or other services during this emergency.
