The countdown is on for Super Bowl LIX which will take place at the Superdome in New Orleans on February 9. The city was originally set to host the biggest game in American football in 2024, but due to a clash with Mardi Gras, it was pushed back 12 months.
This season’s Super Bowl is expected to be one of the biggest sporting events in 2025. It will bring the 2024/25 NFL season to a conclusion, and it will be watched by a huge global audience.
Kansas City Chiefs Bidding for Hat-Trick
Defending champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, are bidding for their third straight success in the Super Bowl this season. At the time of writing, the AFC West team is +600 in the Super Bowl betting markets this year. No team has ever won three straight Vince Lombardi Trophies, so the Chiefs are bidding to make history at Super Bowl LIX.
At the time of writing, the Detroit Lions are the shortest-price team in the NFL betting for the Super Bowl at +400. The NFL North team is 12-2 after 14 matches. It leads the league in points scored following 13 regular season games.
The two teams set to contest Super Bowl LIX will be determined following the Conference Championship games on January 23. At this point, the marketing and promotion of the contest will step up by the NFL and broadcasting partners.
New Orleans Has Experience of Hosting the Super Bowl
This season’s Super Bowl will be the 11th time the game has been held in New Orleans. It was first held there in 1970 when the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Minnesota Vikings at Super Bowl IV. At the time, it broke the attendance record, with over 80,000 there to see the Chiefs prevail.
The Superdome, which opened in 1975, will be holding the Super Bowl for the eighth time. It last hosted the game in 2013 in a thriller. The Baltimore Ravens prevailed, beating the San Francisco 49ers 34-31.
New Orleans’ iconic stadium is used to holding major events. Taylor Swift played three concerts as part of her Eras Tour there in 2024, while it has also held WrestleMania (twice), boxing, and international soccer.
Half-Time Show
The half-time show is a big part of the Super Bowl, and it attracts a wider audience to the event each year. 17-time Grammy winner Kendrick Lamar has been given the honor of playing Super Bowl LIX at the Superdome.
In association with Apple Music and Roc Nation, the NFL produces the Super Bowl Half-Time Show as part of the entertainment during the interval. It will not be the first time that Lamar has appeared on the stage, as he was a guest of Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg during the show in 2022.
Before Super Bowl LIX, American songwriter and singer, Jon Batiste will sing the US national anthem. Contemporary Christian music artist Lauren Daigle has been chosen to perform “America the Beautiful”, while New Orleans’ own Ledisi will also be part of the pre-game entertainment, singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing”.
